Call for Submissions: POINT

To all Minmatar people, their friends and allies, and any interested parties:

It is our great honour and pleasure to announce the genesis of an exciting new publication: POINT. Inspired by the exploits and ideas of brave capsuleers and freedom fighters, POINT offers readers the chance to experience the joys, the triumphs, and the triubulations that make life in Republic space so unique and thrilling. This bold new magazine will feature tales of intrigue, adventure, and betrayal, presented in an attractive and easily accessible format. If you've ever wondered about the fight against the nefarious forces of the Empire, strategies for profit and gain, developments in tribal politics, advice on fitting your ship, or the innovative discoveries of Republic scientists, look no further!

We, the pilots of Electus Matari and the editors of POINT, are excited about this opportunity -- but we need your help to make it great. You, the soldiers and citizens of the Republic, are the source of our inspiration for starting this magazine. This is your struggle, and POINT offers you the chance to tell your side of the story.

We're actively soliciting stories and ideas that fit into any of the following categories:

>> Strategic Military Updates, including: regional military movements, sovereignty change updates, military intelligence digests
>> Tactical Advice, including: ship fitting, piloting strategies, analysis of enemy tactics
>> Economic Analysis, including: notable trends, quarterly reports, investment and career advice
>> Science and Industry Breakthroughs, including: significant discoveries, remarkable industrial projects, production and invention advice
>> Political Digests, including: notable corporation and alliance changes, war decs and peace brokerings, reports on tensions and analyses of trends
>> Original Accounts and Stories, including: first-hand testimonials, journal entries, personal reflections, and tribal histories
>> Editorial Columns, including: reflections on major cluster developments, responses/letters to the editor, thoughts on the direction of the Republic

Don't see your favorite idea on this list? Email us here and we'll discuss how you can best tell your story!

Story length:
>> Short pieces (news stories and strategic updates and fitting advice) should be between 350 and 700 words
>> Medium sized entries (battle reports, advice columns, histories) between 800 and 1000 words
>> Feature stories (narrative fiction, feature columns) between 1200 and 1500 words
>> If you plan on submitting a story of over 2000 words, please contact the editors to discuss your idea. We will only be publishing a few of these per issue, so some planning is required.

Language:
Submissions should be either in Common Standard Translation ((English)), or in Old Gallentean ((French)). We are proud to be New Eden's first official bilingual magazine!

Special Editorial Notice: UPRISING

Our first issue will feature a theme that is broad but nonetheless important to the Minmatar people and their allies. That theme? UPRISING. What do we mean by "uprising"? Stories, news reports, tales, histories, and legends that focus on the well-known Minmatar struggle from slavery into freedom, or the experiences of peoples with similar histories. Do you know of bloody rebellions currently taking place? Of enslaved nations desperate for freedom? Of governments or alliances shattered from within? We want to build a thrilling record of such accounts. Tell POINT your story of "uprising"!

Why the name "POINT"?

We felt this name was rich and multifaceted, a name that reflected:

++ The thrill of battle, of being locked in the heat of combat and being forced to engage
++ An emphatic score in a debate or contest
++ An exacting and precise weapon

As some of you may know, I have been lurking around your corp channel for a couple of weeks. For the past 2 months I have been trying to get a new corp off the ground, but without success. I guess I've always been a good soldier and a not so good salesmen.

I would repectfully request an opportunity to join your ranks, and serve in whatever capacity Gradient / Electus Matari will ask of me.

I am an experienced combat capsuleer, particularly for mission running. My over all skills exceed 66 million SP, and I am nearly an expert in all aspects of flying ships smaller than Capital Class ships. I have significant leadership skills, and my primary ship is the Sleipnir.

I am a veteran of several war decs, however, I still consider my PVP experience to be limited. I do have some experience with Faction Warfare, but that was back when FW was in its infancy, and the Minmatar tactics were largely a "cluster f**k".

My primary activities are to mission run in Heimatar region. Loot and salvage the wrecks. Then return to station and manufacture T1 ammo (projectile), drones, etc. for sale.

I'm a fairly casual player, 10 hours or less a week. But, I can earn close to 80 - 100 million isk per week solo.

I do have an extensive corp history, but most of those were small and since closed down or inactive corporations.

As for role playing, I am willing to participate. I always tended to follow a "theme" for my character, and I am an aspiring fiction writer (short stories) based on EVE and other Sci Fi based MMOs that I play.

If you require an additional information, please feel free to ask.

Greetings to my Minmatar Brothers and Sisters....

I am simply known as "Bluddwolf" and I am the CEO of the fairly new corporation: Heimatar Military Industries.

First I would like to begin by explaining how I came to hear of this alliance. I have been tied into the radio frequencies, typically used by Minmatar capsuleers, for the past few months. On several occasions the corporate name of Gradient and its alliance Electus Matari had come up.

As for myself, as a capsuleer, and a Minmatar loyalist.... My employment history speaks for itself:

Quote:CURRENT CORPORATION

A note on East Khanid Trade / Khanid Guard: I was liberated by a Khanid, Cyber Knight, by the name of "Mei Aijin". It was through her efforts and at great risk, that I made it to freedom in the Frarn system. Years later, I was called upon to repay that debt, and assist EKT during a series of War Decs vs. a number of Caldari based corporations.

Having paid that debt, I returned to Heimatar and returned to armed insurgency against the Amarr and pirates that plague our homelands.

Corporate Details:

Quote:Heimatar Military Industries (HEMI) * Provider of Military Services and technology

"Always 10% Less Than Average Regional Prices, Always the Same Quality You Need"

* Projectile Ammuntion (T1) All Sizes and Types
* T1 Frigates (The best models of the Four Empires)
* T1 Combat Drones, Electronic Warfare and Support Drones
* T2 Minmatar Frigates and Destroyers (BPO limitations, Inquire).

* Mission Running (lvl 4+)
* Manufacturing and Marketing
* Complex Exploration (Hi Sec)
* Planetary Management
* Research and Development

My intention for the future is to grow my corporation and join Electus Matari as a full corporate member.

My corporation is currently working out of the Sveipar constellation, of the Heimatar Region. If any member of Gradient or Electus Matari needs my assistance or a contract order filled, do not hesitate to ask.

Heimatar = "Never Again". As in, "Never Again will our enemies cross our borders without fear of facing our unified fury."

The Amarr-Minmatar War has raged for a very long time, many millions have died in the struggle we face for our existence. Yet still, the empire persists in its evil ways. Billions of our people remain shackled, our borders, homes, and even existences, remain threatened.

On April 27th, the start of spring, the time of my Clan's New Year, we gather in the southern islands of Mikramurka to turn the wheel of time; to respect our brave warriors, honour our fallen, and celebrate our triumphs. The festival will open, on Friday the 27th, and will continue until Sunday the 29th, culminating in the Vanquishing of the Devourer, where we will destroy the evil devouring spirit of the empire in ritual. During the time, many smaller rituals, ceremonies, and celebrations will be performed, and we are hoping to make it truly, an event to remember.

Set on the remote island of Toladr Mahon, off the coast of southern mikramurka, the festival will be able to sprawl across the grassy highland moors. Plenty of space will be provided to bring in shuttles, vehicles, RVs, and tents. Admission is free of charge, and many local shopkeepers will be operating food stalls, shops, and venues

Those interested in attending should contact me by mail at any time between now and the event, so that invitations can be sent.
Those wishing to attend at the last minute should come to prep area in the city ((channel)) Khadsvern, Mikramurka where those deemed safe to invite can be checked in and catch the ferry to the festival, but pre-registration is preferred.

We prefer to not have shuttles coming and going constantly, so shuttles will be grounded at the site between friday evening, and monday morning, the ferry will provide round trips to Khadsvern for those who need to return to space, or pick up supplies.

I hope to see many matari in attendance, I believe it will be a wonderful celebration of our people.

05:42 – 29th of March - YC114

“…I don’t know what you want,” I managed to finally say.

I reached up and stopped the recording holo-message. I closed my eyes tightly, my grip on the idol so tight my knuckles were void of color. I just stood there, countless conversations playing over and over in my mind, the anger, the confusion. I tried to take a few breaths to wipe the chaos from my mind, but the more I focused on trying to push it from my mind the more it persisted. I looked down at my wrist-comms – or the absent spot on my arm, as it were. I rolled my eyes at the memory of what happened to it earlier and reached up to rub my face with my hand. I looked off towards the distant door of Sarr’s apartment.

The duffle at my feet stared up at me, waiting.

* * *

“Sarr…” I eventually exhaled as I stood alone – alone in the very chamber my life had been saved in nearly a year ago.

For the longest time I couldn’t even move, couldn’t think straight. What the hell just happened? One minute we’re… family and next…? I tilted my head down, reaching back with my hand to rub the back of my skull. My fingernails scratched the tiny hairs from the top of my neck to the top of my head. I threw my hand out, from my head, punching the air as I finally turned on my heel and headed over to the small case Ana had offered me earlier. I saw the glasses, the bottles. I reached down and picked up the closest of the bottles. I pulled it from the case, reaching up to twist out the cork before I paused to consider my actions.

“Fuck it,” I said as I pulled the bottle open and brought it to my lips.

I drank, a large drink, gulp after gulp, the alcohol burning my throat and down the center of my chest. My eyes watered, partly from the booze and partly from the stream of emotions running through me. When I pulled the bottle from my mouth I managed to swallow before entering a fit of coughing. I couldn’t tell you when the last time I’d drank was, even the taste in my mouth couldn’t drudge up any familiarities. It tasted harsh, like the whisky had corners on it. I looked down at the bottle once more before forcing down another long drink. Eventually I had to stop; the pain in my throat was unbearable. I lowered the bottle just as the alarm on my wrist-comms went off.

I hastily set the bottle on the nearby crate as I ripped the comms from my wrist. Pulling my arm from it I hauled off and pitched the small piece of tech straight into the nearby wall. It collided with a crunch, the faceplate popping off, along with several other pieces as they scattered to the floor. I felt my heart beginning to race, my breathing becoming quicker and quicker.

“FUCK!” I screamed as I reached out to pick up the unfinished bottle of whisky and pitch it across the room to the other wall. I didn’t even bother to watch it explode; instead I just hung my head and leaned on the large oil-drum near me.

I assumed they’d come back, one of them would. Even with all the yelling, the things said, they’d have to eventually settle down, wouldn’t they? They’d come wandering back, seeing who was still here, maybe hoping to smooth things out, right?

I waited, and just when I thought I couldn’t wait any longer I waited some more. I felt the alcohol making my head fuzzy; I felt the smile creeping across my face – the kind of smile I hadn’t felt in months.

I panicked. I had to get home, and fast.

“Stupid… stupid…” I muttered to myself as I made my way out of the small hole in the wall and out into the station itself.

I kept looking around me, kept dodging people, kept trying to be out of sight, out of mind. My vision was a bit blurry, and there was this odd sensation that everything was spinning. I blinked, often, but my efforts to clear my head seemed to continually fail. I reached up with my fingers plugging my ears, trying hard not to listen to the station announcements, the countless advertisements, or the random people wandering past in the station.

“Just get home. Just get home,” I said over and over to myself in an effort to isolate myself from my surroundings.

I managed to make it to the hanger, slipping into Hiram’s pod, and activating the autopilot to take me home. I quickly disengaged all comms, heads-up displays, and removed everything from my overview. I closed my eyes, let the station’s mechanics get me into the Battlecruiser, and undocked with a course for home.

Once in the new station I exited the pod, desperately trying to ignore all the repair and upgrade requests from the automated attendants, and took the most direct route to Rose’s Lounge.

I remember pushing someone aside as they approached me with Gods know what. I remember pressing so hard against my ears that I thought I’d give myself a headache. I remember nearly tripping over an older woman and her grandson as I darted out of the elevator to escape the constant bombardment of “call now’s” or “act fast’s”.

My eyes were closed, my hands sweating, my palms clammy, and my throat dry when I pushed the code into the door panel and stumbled into the apartment.

“Sarr…” I barely had the voice to say aloud. “I need my…” I stammered, trying to keep my head clear, trying to stay focused.

No one was home. Sarr wasn’t home. Sarr hadn’t gone home.

I felt the tears well up in my eyes for a moment before I tried to steel myself and hold it together. I shuffled towards the bathroom, each step seeming to get more and more difficult.

“Where are you Sarr?” I muttered to myself, wondering what I’ve done to her – to us.

When I finally made it into the bathroom I opened the vanity mirror and pulled out the hypodermic gun. I reached up for one of the green vials, knocking several over in the process. Finally grabbing one I tried to load the gun, my hands shaking so bad it took me nearly a full minute just to get the canister into the breach. With a click of my thumb the hypo snapped shut and I pointed the tip into my neck.

With a pull of the trigger the world went white.

I pulled myself up off the floor, my head throbbing. I squinted as the light seemed to drive this large knife into my skull. My body complained with numerous aches and pains as I pulled myself off the floor. I looked around the bathroom, seen the mess I’d made, and looked out the doorway to the clock in the other room.

Three, four hours out?

I stepped into the kitchen and poured myself a glass of water. I drank heavily, trying to return some kind of hydration to my system. I set the glass down in the sink and stared at it.

Apis.

I cringed.

How is it even possible a Minmater, a soldier for the Republic, holds another of his own people as indentured? Return on his investment my ass. He chose to rescue Sarr, break orders, fuck the mission, or whatever else he did. And now he’s holding his decision over her? Hell he’s likely been doing it for so long now Sarr thinks it’s her own idea to be his goddamn slave!

Dig holes with truths? Where’s the truth in having everyone else telling you what’s going on instead of the single person who should be? Where’s the truth when you bear your sole to a person, put your neck out because you trust them, and then you find out they’re keeping secrets from you? Where’s the truth when you look that person in the eye, ask them for one simple answer, and they choose to walk away – likely right back into the fucker’s arms they’ve convinced themselves they owe?

“Did I fuck something up?” I asked myself quietly.

I looked up at the idol on the nearby shelf. “I just wanted to help. At first I thought it was just a debt, a matter of money owed. And then, then I learn that Apis has some sort of contract for Sarr? For Sarr!? He has a fucking contract for a living, breathing person!? And then, mom, Ana tells me he’s wanting a return on his investment! That Sar has to pay back some kind of debt because he chose to set her free! He makes a decision, and he holds it over her head!? I can’t believe it. I can’t believe what I’m hearing! What have I been doing? What are we all doing here in Gradient? What could we possibly be doing when our own people are freeing slaves and then holding them with the expectations that they owe us for setting them free? What the hell have we become?” I nearly yelled through the tears that were now rolling down my face.

“I love her mom, I do, but I don’t think it’s me she wants. She’s convinced she owes Apis. I watched her as she drove her own sister away because she couldn’t understand how we wanted to help her.” I shook my head at the idol, “It’s not about me, or us; it’s about her. She doesn’t deserve this. She tells me she wants a normal life, yet the moment I offer her the opportunity to be out on her own, out from under anyone’s thumb, she chooses him. That’s like me demanding from all those people I helped save that they owe me something for freeing them. I cannot, for the life of me, understand this! And from a fucking Republic soldier!” I slammed my fist on the counter. “A soldier mom, a man cut from the same cloth as me, a man I thought I respected and admired, a man who’s spilled the same blood as me, a man I would have fought side by side with at any moment, against any enemy.” I hung my head, squeezing my eyes together to force the tears from them. “He told Sarr she couldn’t see Ana. Did I tell you that? Ana and Apis got in an argument and Apis told Sarr she couldn’t see Ana – a friend so close she calls her sister. How long before Apis thinks I’m not the guy Sarr should be with? ‘Cause Gods know I’ve got my issues - any one of those gets to Apis’ attention and then what? He says ‘jump’ and she says ‘how high’?”

I reached up and grabbed my hair, tugging at it before I looked back up at the idol. “I don’t know what to do mom. Everyone I care about is… either turned fucking traitorous or has walked away from me. I asked Sarr to answer a simple question, one question: if what she wanted was to repay this debt on a choice that Apis made himself. She wouldn’t answer. She wouldn’t answer and she walked away. She said she was going home and now…” I motioned around the empty apartment, “…now I don’t even know if she’s coming back. And why? Why? Because I opened my fucking mouth and tried to help. Goddamn it!” I yelled.

It took me just a matter of minutes to collect my things, to refill that old Fleet duffle. It wasn’t fair for me to be pushing Sarr like this, to be this constant reminder of whatever problems it is that I keep bringing up. She needed time, peace, and quiet. I’d go, she could return home, maybe clear her head, and then – if she wants – bring me back into her life.

…even if I was beginning to think it was either Apis or me.

I stepped back into the main room and grabbed the idol from the shelf. I smiled a bit, looking down at the gift from my mother. “I gotta stop talking to idols,” I said with a faint curl to the corner of my mouth, “…people’ll think I’m crazy.”

I set the bag down in the center of the room and activated the holo-messenger.

“It’s, uh… been a pretty intense day. Look, I didn’t mean to cause all this trouble, I just… I’m just having a hard time knowing what exactly is going on. I want to help, Sarr. I love you, but right now I’m not sure where I fit into things. Maybe if I give you the space or time to think that’ll help. Maybe I’ve been the problem all along. Look, I’m just a call away. I’m not gone, I just… I want you, Sarr. I want you to be happy and free and living as much of that normal life as I can make for you – as we can make for each other. I just…” I paused, my heart weighing heavily in my chest.

I bent over and pulled the duffle over my shoulder. I crossed the room to the door, opening it, and staring out into the attached bar.

The duffle at my feet stared up at me, waiting.

* * *

Dierdra Vaal;411367 Wrote:Imagine the war dec system, as proposed, with the following changes:
1) The attacking corp/alliance starts with an 'ISK deficit' equal to the cost of the wardec.
2) In order to keep control of the wardec, they need to inflict at least that much damage on their target corp/alliance (and any friends they might have). ISK damage is already being tracked in the new War Reports anyway.
3) At the end of each war week, when the new bill is due, the system evaluates if the attacking corp is ahead on ISK damage and if they met or exceeded their ISK deficit. If so they keep control of the war. If not, control of the war transfers to the target corp/alliance, who then effectively become the attacker. They can decide to renew the war (and pay the fee), or cancel it.
4) Any wars that are not renewed are followed by a period of peace between the two entities equal to the length of the war.

This means you can still do everything the current system allows you to do as attacker - provided you don't fail hard at pvping (I believe there should be a consequence to failing, so that seems fine to me). As long as you're beating the other side at pvp, you keep control of the war. But once the other side bests you at pvp, either by fighting themselves or letting mercs fight for them, they gain control of the war and can decide to continue it or stop it.

Seems like a much more fair system to me, one that encourages people to fight and incentivises mercenary gameplay.

Accommodating neutral ships (e.g. Logi) would be difficult though. Maybe it could take into consideration kills of ships that have an aggression flag relating back to repping war targets if they are looking at flagging too.

They're streamlining the crime system. In particular, there are now three states:
- Normal
- Suspect (can be shot at by everyone)
- Criminal (can be shot at by everyone, will be shot at by sentries and CONCORD)

This means in particular that can theft makes you vulnerable to everyone, not just the corp you stole from. Likewise, RRing a pilot in war in high-sec will make you a suspect and vulnerable to everyone. This is great, but it also means that pilots in war will most likely not be allowed in any incursion fleet.

- War dec cost depends on the target size and the number of wars an entity declared. NOT the number of wars a target group already has on them.
- Lots of stuff to prevent evading wars
- A contract system to enable supporting a defender in a war
- The aggressor can not simply withdraw a war when they don't like it anymore (but it can expire normally)
- Some statistics from the game about how each side is doing in the war, ISK-wise

Is anyone else having those?

Been going on for... week or two? I get about 1-4 CTDs per hour, without any apparent connection to what I am doing. Fixed window mode. No new software or hardware on the computer. Windows claims graphics drivers are up to date.

HALP. I cannot PvP in this.

One of the panels at FF (I think it was the art panel) mentioned the possible implementation of mixed-race characters. I'm curious what others think about implementing the ability to change your race/gender/bloodline after creation, as a MT/Aurum transaction. Blizzard has had what I'm sure is tremendous success with this type of meta-MT. They started out small, with server transfers and name changes, but now you can change just about every meta aspect of your character for a relatively small fee. Sex, Race, Name, Server, I think just about everything but your class.

I think you could implement these types of changes in the client by adding them to the avatar recustomization screen. Add another section to it that has some type of acknowledgement screen ("Yes, I know this will cost me aurum."), and then you would be able to change all of those "fixed" attributes for a set amount of Aurum, before continuing on to the rest of the character recustomization.

Personally, I'd really like to be able to make these kinds of changes with my alt, Thandormi. According to my story, he's half Caldari/half Gallente, but he looks just like every other Intaki. Once (and if) mixed race bloodlines get added, I'd like to be able to spend the cash to change him appropriately.

An issue I'm facing with TS3 is my mic input is too low. On Vent the input is fine so I don't want to adjust my global mic settings. Is there a way in TS3 to turn up my mic input?

Also I tend to be in an environment where simply raising my voice to a pseudo shout would inconvenience others around me.

Thanks!

So, I'm not there, but I hear Stuff[tm]. Add more rumors below, please. And don't panic, these are RUMORS ;-)

- Apparently, stealing from a can will give you a global aggression flag, not corp-specific (*anyone* can shoot you). Awesome.

- No logis on kill mails. Sad panda.

- But, some sort of public battle report API that shows logis. O_O

- Aggro timer on remote repair system activation. Yay.

- Sec status is changed somehow? +10 sec status possible etc.?
