On the other hand, if I were to RP WOW (which I only tried one of the times I played WOW), I wouldn't have a problem with an idiot member of the guild (if it was RPed properly).

This is because other players aren't enemies in the RP sense. (or really any sense, the PVP is meaningless)

WoW isn't as bad as people give it stick, the problem is that the game is so popular the level of player skill is vast, and the average joe is a lot less competant than many people would assume. But the people that play it with the goal to make something out of their time in the game are generally good players, and not just at WoW.

WoW PvP sucks though, it's either random battlegrounds of decent geared people beating up on crap geared people. Or a crapshoot of 2v2/3v3/5v5 that either becomes horribly one sided due to team composition or a long drawn out game of /yawn that they like to call "Chess" (which is really a handful of classes with effective CC that can just sustain a fight for as long as they need till the other team gets bored and makes a mistake... 20 minutes later)

WoW PvE on the other hand is very good, the organisation required and constant strive to fix the logistical issues by Blizzard is in my opinion the example of how to run PvE in a game. Of course it's still easy until the bleeding edge and in terms of single player skill required is not insanely difficult*, it's a matter of team co-ordination and hoping the other 24 people are as awake as you are.

I have to admit I did laugh when he is outside the station trying to PvP (a.k.a. get concordokken) with his reaper and gets frustrated because the other ships are just going about their business and keep warping out just before he gets into lock range.

To be fair, Eve *is* a tough game to get into when you start. The tutorials help, but even beyond that it's very easy to be at a loss. WoW has a good new-player PvE experience that leads you on to doing further things pretty naturally.

It *is* always easy to trash things that aren't what you like in particular...

A corp mate just recently re-discovered this which seems oddly appropriate for this thread:

I know players who play 'idiots' because they're so afraid of making the 'wrong' decision that if they deliberatly play an idiot they can pick the obvious 'wrong' decision and then go 'oh well my character is an idiot and so would have made the wrong call' and thus not have to worry taking any resposibilty for their actions. Some deeply broken psychopathology there. The tragedy of it is in our gaming group there have been situations where that person has come up with the perfect solution to the current dilema and it's been dismissed as the obvious wrong course of action by the rest of the players because it was that guy. Now whether they just screwed up and accidientally came up with the best answer (when they thought it was wrong) or were actually trying to do something right for a change (and got dismissed out of hand - never to venture a real solution again) is a question for the ages.

I only just worked that picture out... suddenly it got a whole lot funnier.
