What is Electus Matari?
Electus Matari is an alliance dedicated to supporting the Minmatar Republic. This means we obey its laws and enforce their letter and spirit when the Republic's hands are tied, we fight her enemies when it's needed and keep the peace when the Republic's lead says to do so.
We oppose slavery, which holds one third of the Matari populace in bondage, but we do not desire the slaughter of the Amarr Empire in the name of revenge.
We act to support the Republic's corporations, doing what we can to leaven the labour shortages caused by slave raids and the recent exodus to Gallente space.
And we defend her government. Whatever we may feel as pilots, we are not the be-all and end-all of the Matari. It's the people on the planets, our tribes and our clans who choose their leaders - and they're the ones who will pay the price if the war starts again.
So when we fight, we do so carefully, mindful as to the consequences, and follow the lead of the chosen representatives of our people.
OOC: EM is an immersionist role-playing alliance. That means we play out every detail of our characters' lives - we are IC by default, except in specifically OOC channels.
Role-playing is more than shouting "Die, Slaver, die" in local. It's about portraying a character, a personality that may, in many ways, be different from your own. In triumph or disaster, joy or pain, every turn of events has an effect that shapes that personality and that we enjoy portraying.
What isn't Electus Matari?
We're not a militant anti-Amarr group, chasing revenge for the Long Night and all that followed. We're more concerned with correcting the situation that faces our people than with exacting blood for it.
So if you're interested in joining Electus Matari because you want to kill Amarr, and that's your
only reason, you are looking in the wrong place.
OOC: We endeavour to play plausible characters within the setting of Eve Online. Aliens and superbeings (beyond what any capsuleer is) don't fit too well with that, nor do time travellers, animal hybrids etc. Madmen who believe themselves to be these things are another matter, but bear in mind that a CEO is unlikely to hire a loon.
What are Electus Matari Pilots Like?
An EM pilot should have all the following qualities in spades:
- Professionalism. We don't smacktalk, disobey orders or run around willy nilly like headless chickens on drugs.
- A Desire to Excel. EM pilots should be prepared to look at their own efforts and constantly seek how to improve, how to do things better. Republicans are few and therefore every action needs to be as effective as possible.
- Dedication. You need to believe in what you're doing, and have the patience to walk a long, hard path that is going to cost you emotionally at times.
- Intelligence. Not everything is written right on the cover in big, glowing letters. You need to pay attention to the world around you and understand what is really going on.
- Honour. We are the good guys and need to behave as such. Torture, murder without reason, petty crime are all detrimental to the reputation of the alliance; and without reputation, diplomacy can never succeed. And without diplomacy, no cause is ever won.
OOC: Because we only portray characters, players in EM should be able to separate their character's feeling for enemy pilots, from the player's feeling for their players. We are playing a game here, and games are played for all sides to have fun.
What are the rules?
There's a full list of standing orders when you get in; all pilots are expected to follow them and can be removed if they don't and show no signs of improving. But here are the biggies:
- No piracy.
- No griefing, baiting, scamming, theft of ore or salvage.
- No keeping slaves, no supporting slavery.
- No acting against the Republic's interests.
- Maintain the alliance's reputation.
Each corp within the alliance has its own way of doing things, but any violation of the above are likely to result in words with your CEO.
What are the benefits of being in EM?
The alliance does everything it can to keep combat sustainable for its members, from cheap ship replacement to provision of intel. Because of our industrial backbone, most things are cheap.
We're a very active alliance with stuff going on almost all the time. A pilot who doesn't want to be, will never be idle.
We're a friendly, helpful bunch, with plenty of training available for those who don't know their way around one thing or another.
OOC: And you can get RP any time you want it
What are the risks?
EM is at war. EM will always be at war, as long as there are threats to the safety of the Republic and the people who dwell in it or descend from it.
Of course, for many, that is one of the benefits.
Do you have 0.0 access?
We sometimes send roaming fleets into the tribal lands of The Great Wildlands; we have good relations with some alliances there, but the area is in heavy conflict and far from safe.
Our duty lies in the Republic and that's where we live.
How do I apply?
If you're applying as a pilot, talk to the recruiters of the corporations you're interested in and qualified for.
If you're applying as a corporation, we'll need to know the following:
- Why you want to join.
- How your corporation works internally.
- What your business plan is.
- How you recruit.
- What you do as a corporation and what you're capable of
- OOC: Whether you'll fit in and be comfortable in an RP environment of the type we have. We're not looking for people who are prepared to try and force themselves to RP, or to "tolerate" it, but folks who will love and revel in it as much as we do.
