I got inspired by Pelleks' story and wanted to give it a go. I'm open for feedback.
My goal was to create a simple "a moment in the life of" story and with that trying to capture some of her background.
I'm flattered, but if Ken came over as that shallow I clearly need to work on his character more...

Dude, why? The fact that Ken's ex-girlfriend thinks him shallow is a
good thing, if your goal is to roleplay a realistic character. Its rare when someone actually views their ex in a positive light.
Even if Ken doesnt feel himself to be shallow, its entirely possible people can view him that way IC. If you spend your time trying to RP a character that everyone has a positive view on (never mind his ex's!) your character will come off incoherent and yes, shallow.
Like in real life, dont try to be all things to all people. Just play the character as you would, and marvel at how people might perceive him or her.
