We'd really rather go with the vote, given that that is the way things are usually done.

If the vote goes for us, then we'd be happy.

If the vote goes against us, we'd be sad.

If we buck the system and join without a vote, we'd have no mandate, incumbents may feel that their opinions are not considered, which might build resentment. This is not our aim.

We do appreciate the thought tho.

But you have to realize that the system officially is that if the Alliance Leader says it is so, it is so. Doing it on his override is not "bucking the system", it is the system.
